Day 1 in the Books

Opening night kicked off with a World Series Contender versus a team of minor leaguers in major league uniforms.  It kicked off with a playoff team vs a new comer.  It was the Texas Rangers vs AL West newcomers, Houston Astros.  Throw the Astros’ 18 Million dollar payroll out.  Throw out the fact that Alex Rodriguez is being paid more than the entire Astros’ team.  When it comes down to those two magic words of Play Ball, anything goes.  Bo Porter, first year manager of Houston, has his players believing that they are Major League players.  They do not hand a major league uniform over to just anyone.  They are running out on that field because they are capable of competing.  And after 1 game, that is exactly what they did.  They competed, they hustled  they played small ball, and they played long ball.  Now 1 game is in the books, and for the first time since April of 2007, the Houston Astros are in first place.
